Vision

With my background in neuroscience, several years spent developing cognitive tasks in clinical settings, and a passion driven by personal exposure to cognitive and affective disorders, I want to contribute to a radical new approach to studying emotion. To this end, I plan to pursue a Ph.D. in affective neuroscience to study the neural processes that mediate affect. I aim for a research career at the intersection of neuroscience and affective computing that seamlessly exploits the intersection of the digital and physical worlds. I envision extended reality paradigms that enable individuals to navigate life-like environments while peripheral monitoring devices collect data about the neuronal and physiological responses that characterize emotion. By refining this approach in research settings to characterize neural circuits, we will be able to develop technologies that will monitor and communicate the progression of affective disorders throughout society.
