The Crash
that Sparked it all
In January 2017, I was hospitalized following a traumatic brain injury (TBI) that occurred from an accident on the wrestling mat.

Neuroscientist
Growing up in a low-income household, I had never imagined a career in science. But the months of rehabilitation that followed this TBI exposed me to the stark reality of the cognitive deficits experienced by patients with neurological disorders, underscoring a challenge in modern neuroscience: cognitive assessments do not adequately reflect the symptoms of patients. Motivated by this challenge, I aim to pursue an interdisciplinary research career where I will unite methods from cognitive neuroscience and computer science to expand our capacity to monitor cognitive deficits by exploring the neural circuits that underlie affect and cognition.
