By pairing the immersion of VR with data from neuroimaging and electrophysiology we can begin to understand how circuits of the brain mediate emotional states in real-world settings. I plan to develop experiments that model emotional circuitry by exposing participants to immersive environments that induce emotional experiences. By leveraging machine learning algorithms to find correlations between behavior and neural activity we can develop sophisticated models of the circuits that modulate feelings and actions.
